West Virginia: Support these Bills!

Thanks to Jo Angle for this update and for always keeping a very close eye on West Virginia legislation.

HB4432
(Click on the above link to read the bill in its entirety.)
A bill prohibiting declination or termination of property insurance based solely upon a home owner’s possession of a certain breed of dog; and providing exception.

If you own ANY breed of dog that appears to be one of a number of breeds, including German Shepherd, Rottweiler, Akita, St. Bernard, Great Dane, Doberman Pincsher, pit bull, etc. You know that many insurance companies will reject providing Home Owners Insurance to you because of the insurance industries infamous list of what THEY consider ‘dangerous dogs’. THIS IS DISCRIMINATION…with this bill they will not be allowed to deny a home owner coverage based on the type of dog that home owner chooses. Please contact Delegate Clif Moore who is chair of Banking and ask him to place this bill on his agenda. 304 340-3189 or clif.moore@wvhouse.gov This bill first goes to Banking and Insurance and then to Judiciary.

SB105
(Click on the link above to read the bill in its entirety)
Relating to making it a misdemeanor to wager at animal fighting ventures; creating the misdemeanor offense of conducting, financing, managing, supervising, owning or leasing any part of an animal fighting venture or the premises on which it takes place with knowledge that wagering is occurring; and providing a criminal penalty.

*This bill was introduced last year making it a felony to be involved and was later amended to a MISDEMEANOR offense. The bill passed through committee and was defeated on the Senate floor (you may remember my letters to Senator Fanning, Helmick and Barnes…). PLEASE SUPPORT THIS BILL!!! Tell the Senate WV is NOT open to CRIMINALS by calling or emailing Delegate Butcher to tell him you support this bill. His phone number is 304 340-3113 email gbutcer@mail.wvney.edu. He has voice mail so you can leave a message. Please email the members of the House Agirculture comm and tell them that you do not support the bill.

Again, thanks to Jo for the information!
