BSL ALERT: Ishpeming, Michigan

The city of Ishpeming, Michigan is experiencing problems related to dogs running loose in the community. In response to two recent issues involving dog on animal attacks, a resident brought his concerns to the city council. The council has formed a committee, and the city is considering many options including breed specific regulations and weight restrictions.

Please send your polite, respectful and informative opposition to breed and weight restrictions to the Ishpeming city officials. Encourage city officials to strictly enforce the existing leash law, and penalize reckless and irresponsible dog owners who violate the current law. Residents are strongly encouraged to reach out to their city officials with assistance and suggestions that will benefit the entire community.

The issue is expected to come up at a future council meeting. The council next meets on November 7 and December 5. Meetings take place at the Ishpeming Senior Center, 320 S. Pine Street and begin at 7:00 p.m. City council meetings are also broadcast live on Charter Channel 19.

Individual contact information is not available for the city council members, but you may forward your correspondence to the city clerk, with a polite request to forward on to each council member. There is also an online contact form.
