We alerted you in June that the city of Marianna, Arkansas was considering an ordinance that would regulate the ownership of “pit bulls” in the city limits. At that time, a rough draft of the ordinance had not been presented to the council, however, the clerk confirmed the ordinance was breed specific.
I spoke with the city clerk today, and the city has decided to start from scratch on the ordinance. At the last Board meeting, the members voted to appoint a commission (a committee) to craft potential ordinances. The appointed commission will then present their proposals to the Board.
The Board will appoint committee members at its next council meeting on August 14. If you are a resident of Marianna and would like to help craft the animal control ordinance, please reach out to your city officials and put your name in the hat to be considered for the committee.
