Ishpeming, MI: Committee recommendations on dog ordinance to be heard

We learned a few weeks ago that the city of Ishpeming, Michigan is experiencing problems related to dogs running loose in the community. In response to two recent issues involving dog on animal attacks, a resident brought his concerns to the city council. The council has formed a committee, and the city is considering many options including breed specific regulations and weight restrictions.

The committee is slated to give its recommendations on any proposed ordinance at the council meeting on Wednesday, November 7, 2012.  A public comment segment of the council meeting takes place prior to any city business being discussed.  Please attend Wednesday’s council meeting and encourage the city officials to strictly enforce the existing leash law, and penalize reckless and irresponsible dog owners who violate the current law.  You can also contact the city clerk and ask to be put on the meeting agenda.

City council meetings take place at the Ishpeming Senior Citizens Center, located 320 South Pine Street, and begin at 7:00 p.m.

In the meantime, please send your polite, respectful and informative opposition to BSL to the Ishpeming city officials listed below.  Individual contact information is not available for the city council members, but you may forward your correspondence to the city clerk, with a polite request to forward on to each council member. There is also an online contact form.
