As a result of numerous complaints received about two rottweilers over the course of two years, the officials of Yalobusha County, Mississippi have instructed their Board Attorney, John Crow, to draw us up an ordinance to “give some authority to do something that still doesn’t restrict everybody too much.”
According to Mr. Crow, the ordinance will hing on a key question – will it be breed specific or will dogs be designated as dangerous on a case-by-case basis? While supervisors expressed reservations about singling out specific breeds, the county attorney advised that designating dogs dangerous on a case by case basis was problematic. He also pointed out that any ordinance would require allocating more money to animal control as there is no animal shelter to house dogs.
County Attorney Crow agreed to fine-tune an ordinance with wording for both breed specific or for addressing vicious dogs on a case-by-case basis for the next meeting scheduled Nov. 20.
