Who has BSL?

The below list of communities with breed specific legislation comes from Rott-n-Chatter, the oldest Rottweiler/BSL site on the web. Jan Cooper maintained the list for 20 years, and I took over for her a few years ago. For the complete list that includes cities that have repealed and cities that have decided against BSL, please visit the Rott-n-Chatter website.

The following states have laws that prohibit municipalities from passing breed specific ordinances: California, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Maine, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia and Washington. You will find, however, that some cities in those states are listed below. That’s because some states have “home rule,” which means the authority of cities and counties to act in local affairs is transferred from state law to a local charter.

With this in mind, its important to remember that regardless of where you live, BSL is a concern for all dog owners, and we should take every measure to prevent it no matter how near or far.

  1. I live in PG county. MD and use to walk my AmStaff on the beach at Atlantic City. I see no reason whatsoever for BSL here in PG county and why it exists in Atlantic City is beyond me.
I see a correlation between BSL and gun laws, citizens will gun up liberties and freedoms for a false sense of security that will never exist.
Most people have never touched a bully breed dog of gun but want them banned for their protection because the mainstream media has convinced their friends to persuade them to do the same.

  2. Facebook has been a great tool by posting pictures of my children with our pitbull and beautiful pictures of her. Facebook is where I found out about your site and thanked sent an e-mail thanking the governor of Navada and to keep his state free. I am trying to leave the state of Maryland because it is no longer free.
